Facebook and other social networks are not all fun and games. New advertising programs, such as Beacon, keep track of a user’s activity in partner sites and report back to your friends about your searches. You are automatically signed up for Beacon as soon as you form your page. The beacon issue has sparked debate on privacy rights around the world. Some information should never be given in social networks because it puts the user at risk of being harmed (Perez).
The differences in myspace and facebook really are very slim to the normal eye. The real evident difference when facebook was first created was that facebook was only used by people with a student account. As opposed to myspace that could be used by anyone above a ceratin age limit. Now facebook also can be used by adults already done with school and others. I believe that there is also a secuirty difference between myspace and facebook. A person’s myspace can be view by anyone unless you edit your profile and set it to private. In facebook a person can only view your profile if you have accepted them as a friend and basically given them permission to do so. Facebook as an overall basis I think seems more organized and secure than myspace. So in the end in my opinion us facebook not myspace.
Facebook has become an essential part of most college students lives. It can be used for many different things, including academic usages. However, the main aspect is social. One article described facebook as “a website where you can go to make friends” (Craig Wilson). Facebook is a place you can go to find your long lost friend from kindergarten or your next door neighbor. They will friend request you and you can also meet people you have never met before and request to be their friend as well. It is also an effective way to plan an event, or discuss things in a group. You can create an event or a group and then invite people on facebook. Then there is a place where everyone can talk and see what each other is saying, kind of like a wiki page. This can be helpful for class projects, organizing parties, etc.
