Starting and Using Expression Web
· Create the folder for your website and put it where you want it in your groups folder
· Close all programs that you aren’t currently using
· Click Start --> All Programs --> Microsoft Expression --> Expression Web
· Close pages that are shown in the window (if any)
· Close toolbox
· Task Panes --> Choose Folder List and any other task bars you want
· File --> New --> Web Site --> Empty Web Site --> Create web in folder you created earlier (browse at bottom of window) --> Okay
· File --> New --> Page --> HTML Page --> Okay
· View --> Ruler and Grid --> Show Ruler
· Save As --> Change title to “index” --> Change page title (what will appear on title bar) --> Save
· File --> Page Properties --> Formatting --> Make selections
· File --> Page Properties --> Advanced --> Set all to “0”
· Create other new pages as needed. Remember to change the page title. Repeat formatting and advanced page properties
· Rinse and repeat until you get all the pages you need
· If you come back to work on your pages later, right click on the page you want to edit and click “Open with…” and choose “Expression Web”. The program will open and you can resume work on your site… If your default program is Expression Web, you can simply click “Edit” and it will open automatically
Things to remember:
· Capitalization does matter when saving your websites
· Don’t put spaces in your page names; they won’t work correctly online
· Remember to save your home page as “index”
· You can drag and drop pictures into your images folder in Expression Web. This is much faster than opening them individually
· Name your pictures something that will allow you to easily know what they are without having to look at them. This will save a lot of time when looking for your pictures
